If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have a paradise in a few years.
and....i have to add that this quote, given mr. russell's thoughts is taken hugely out of context. im sure this is a highly-skeptical and almost sarcastic statement meant to laugh at the notion of idealism.
regardless, i think he is amazing and i think you would love his practical skepticism.

bertrand russell is the basis for most of my atheist beliefs (irony-im aware).
"why im not a christian" is one of my favorite books.
he is amazing...and very atheist. just sayin :]
