why go to the tanning bed
and pay for a tan,
when you have the sun for free?
oh you dont have enough time?

You're obviously fortunate enough to live in a sunny place. I grew up in Scotland where there's 100% cloud cover about 95% of the time. We don't get much sun there. It's always funny to see these people with an amazing tan who have obviously been to a tanning salon.

Anyway, I reckon these places probably kill you. It's another case of man trying to beat God at his own game and failing miserably.

i know i am making excuses and that my situation does not apply to everyone. but i have seasonal personality disorder and tanning beds are a form of light theropy for me and therefore put me in better moods. also... i have osteoperosis in my ankles. the uv rays from tanning beds create vitamin d (and c) in our bodies which creates calcium making bones stronger. i do not go to tanning beds for the tanning... but for the benifits that i personally can obtain. i think that those who are going just to get a tan are silly, but i live in canada in northern ontario so we have about 8 months of snow a year so i can see why some people don't want to be pasty white all winter. but when those who are pasty white turn orange than it has become a problem.

another lazy american invention? perhaps? i mean all you gotta do really is sit out, how much work does it take. if your country doesn't get enough sun and all winter, well i guess that's how it's suppose to be. why be ashamed of your color? you were made like that to bring flavour to this world. enough with the tanning already.
- oh i'm tan. (even in winter)

its an interesting thing you wrote this entry. it seemed like you were upset that there are people who don't fully appreciate natures gifts. the tanning bed is an interesting thing. a common reason i hear is that by utilizing a tanning bed you will be able to have a perfect no-tanline bronzed and beautiful physique. this is not a issue for me really, i never found that having tan lines made me feel any less attractive. but...for those who work very hard on their body's appearance, its the icing on the cake and adds that extra dimension of "awww" and wonder when you first lay your eyes upon them. its a difficult thing to keep in prime condition so i clap my hands to the ones who pull it off. like you said, time is an issue. i know a girl who goes to highschool and works at a gym at night. a couple nights a week she goes and tans when she gets off of work. i don't know if she also lays out...but i do know she has to budget her time. tanning helps her to feel a little better about how she looks and its less time consuming. plus its the whole "pain is beauty" thing. the tanning beds freakin burn! so, it ands that element of feeling like your going through the bitter to get to the sweet. classic human struggle. we all need a little of it in our lives to feel balanced. also she is a white girl. i mean white white. and so its harder for her to tan. my sister is not as unfortunate as her though. she tans really easily and doesn't use a tanning bed at all. i'm not as unfortunate as her either. i work outside, so my face and arms darken up nicely.

it all leads back to vainity. really.... some are doing it all for the wrong reasons. yes it can be beneficial for something like light therapy or injuries.... plus it can also be relaxing. but there are other ways of achieving relaxation or repairing injuries in natural methods. but there are really just a bunch of un-naturally blonde haired girls and "pumped full of steroids" guys that go there just to try to achieve that look that the world desires. i believe, embrace what God has given you cause it is your personal gift. do what you can to keep the temple that is your body healthy. whether it is drugs, tanning, make-up, or any of that other crap that alters your mind and body, it is not good for you. (i realize that drugs and tanning are opposite extremes... i am trying to make my point :) ) so here is another question for some of you. why do we have drive-thru's? fast food is a disgusting luxury of our society in north america (i am from canada). but it has even become easier access that one does not even have to get out of his or her car to obtain the filth known as fast food. "oh you dont have enough time?"
